Thuso Mbedu is a name that needs no introduction in South African Entertainment. If you do not know who Thuso is, I assure you now this is a name you should know. Thuso Mbedu is a South African Actress, television personality, international Emmy nominee and award-winning actress who now resides in the United States of America.

I got to know Thuso in her well-known character of a teen soapy known as Is’Thunzi which premiered in October 2016i, after being unemployed for six months after her gigs in late 2014, on the second season of the Mzansi Magic soapie Isibaya, before landing a role as a journalism student and rebellious child on Etv Scandal.

Which was followed by a guest role as Kheti on the second season of the SABC 2 teen drama series, Snake Park. Is’Thunzi is where she played Winnie, a sassy go-getter whose dream is to marry a rich and famous rugby player, just for her dreams to be dashed when she is forced to go live with her strict aunt in the villages. Thuso was one of the leading actors and captured the hearts of many, with that role bagging her an international Emmy Award in the category Best Performance.

Ever since Ms Mbedu appeared on our tv screens, she has been an inspiration to me and many other creatives. She has stared in a hit debut in the 2021 Amazon video historical limited series called The Underground Railroad. We have seen her fight for her dreams, bag bigger roles, travel the world, grow in her craft and building a brand that is now international.

One of my favourite things about Thuso is her long Instagram captions, she always makes sure to inspire, question and motivate, can’t forget her humorous dancing and funny faces she usually posts. I am honestly always looking forward to her posts as she doesn’t take herself that serious.

Thuso’s long list of collaborations with brands includes Puma, Converse, Dior beauty, Gucci Steers and Dodge. She is also the door of hope SA’s ambassador. That shows the kind of person Thuso is, due to the loss of both parents at an early age.

Thuso recently been announced that she will stare in a fil debut opposite Viola Davis in The Woman King, a historical epic film inspired by the true-life events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. The film is to be directed by Gina Prince-BYTHEWOOD. Thuso is providing how we can dream big and also dream beyond our boarders and occupy every space. Ms Mbedu is winning and here on The Block we love it!

To the dream chasers, don’t fret to run after them, show up for your dreams, get inspired. Wake up, kick butt, be kind and repeat!
